ADELE Gordon is glad her daughter Samantha encouraged her to lose weight. “She was only being honest with me and she felt it was easier coming from a family member rather than a friend, who might have felt awkward,” said Adele, from East Kilbride. Since joining WW in January 2018, after years of yo-yo dieting, Adele has dropped from a size 18 to a 12 and shed more than three stone. “Sam had mentioned that as she was expecting another daughter in January 2018, that maybe this would be the perfect time to try to lose weight as I am not getting any younger and it would only be better for my health. “I knew she was right, so I joined the same class. “My daughter is a wonderful inspiration as well as her future mother-in-law, Liz, who was the person who introduced Sam to WW years ago. I had seen the change in them and suddenly felt I wanted a piece of that.”
Adele admits she’d piled on the pounds when she turned to takeaways and convenience food as she worked long shifts.
“The chip shop, Chinese take away, pizza place or curry houses were the quicker and easier option but sadly, not the healthiest, and no wonder I had ended up the heaviest I’d been.
“Looking at myself in the mirror or in the photographs made me feel depressed.
“I would avoid having my photo taken and I would hide at the back.”
Adele also wanted to slim down in time for Samantha’s wedding.
She said: “I would love to stand beside her and not only be the proud mother of the bride but to also be proud of my weight loss.”
Now she has so much energy to play with her grandchildren.
Adele said: “I can’t thank my daughter enough for supporting and guiding me throughout. I wouldn’t have done it without her.”
