Mum’s heartbreaking Facebook message to her tragic Alesha

BY ANDREW BARGH reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk THE MUM of tragic Alesha MacPhail has posted a heartbreaking online message to her daughter following the conviction of her killer.

Georgina Lochrane, 24, said Alesha can now be “at peace” after Aaron Campbell, 16, was found guilty of raping and murdering her on the Isle of Bute last July.

The mum wrote on Facebook: “We had the hardest two weeks of our lives, being dragged through a trial, having to listen to what was said.

“But you stayed in mummy’s heart and we did it, my lassie.

“That boy will never hurt anyone ever again or have the chance to inflict what he did to you on any other child.

“You’re mummy ’s strong, beautiful, bubbly little princess.

“I made you a promise that I won’t give up until you see justice done and I hope we did it right, angel. Yo u are unconditionally loved and missed Alesha and now you can be at peace my girl.”

Six-year-old Alesha, from Airdrie, was staying with dad Rab MacPhail, 26, and her grandparents on Bute when she was abducted from her bed by depraved Campbell in the early hours of July 2, sexually assaulted and suffocated.

Her body was found in woods.

Campbell, who had previously bought cannabis from Rab and his girl f r iend Toni McLachlan, tried to incriminate 18-year-old Toni for Alesha’s death.

But he was convicted of her rape and murder at the High Court in Glasgow last Thursday.

The next day, Lord Matthews granted an application by the Daily Record and other media outlets to name the killer, who had remained anonymous throughout proceedings due to his age.

Alesha’s former school, Chapelside Primary School in Airdrie, plans to build a playhouse in her memory following a hugely suc c e ssful crowdfunding appeal.

The school’s staff and parent council raised £22,000 with the help of comedian Jason Manford, who shared the online appeal last September.

Headteacher Wendy Davie said: “Alesha is always in our thoughts and we will never forget her.”

Manford, who runs Charity Ninja, said the whole community had been rocked by Alesha’s murder.

Nicola Smith, who ran the Crowdfunder page, thanked people for their generous donations.
