STAR IS JUST THE TICKET

Bodyguard star pays £11 for ticket to premiere of his own film

-

SCREEN hunk Richard Madden turned down a free ticket and insisted on paying his way to see a documentary he had narrated.

The Bodyguard star queued up with other punters to hand over £11 to watch Harry Birrell: Films of Love and War at the Glasgow Film Theatre.

The documentary about BY BEVERLEY LYONS amateur cameraman Birrell, who was born in Paisley in the 20s, was shown as part of the Glasgow Film Festival.

A GFT film-goer said: “We couldn’t believe it when we saw Richard queue for a ticket and then take a seat in the cinema. It was around 3.30pm.

“He looked so handsome in his black top and jacket. He was keen to be pretty low-key.

“Most people didn’t realise they had an award-winning star in their midst.”

Richard, 32, sat in the audience with Harry’s granddaughter Corina Birrell, who produced the film. He met up with co-producer John Archer and director Matt Pinder at the end.

Glasgow Film Fest iva l co-director Allison Gardner said: “We are delighted that Richard made the effort to support the film at its debut screenings. It was a joy to have him the audience.”

Golden Globe and NTA award- winner Richard, from Elderslie, Renfrewshire, will star as Elton John’s former lover John Reid in a biopic about the pop star. Rocketman will be out at the end of May.
