KFC blunder firm to ship vital drugs

-

THE firm behind KFC’s chicken shortage fiasco has won a contract to ship in vital NHS supplies from a Belgian hub in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

The fast-food chain had to shut hundreds of outlets last year after hiring delivery firm DHL.

Green Party MP Caroline Lucas said: “The idea vital medical supplies will be handled by a company incapable of delivering chicken to KFC is truly frightening.” The Department of Health said: “DHL is one of the biggest logistics companies.”

Lucas May still believes she can wring some changes from the EU which will placate Brexiteers’ concerns about the Irish backstop.

The backstop prevents a return of a hard border in Ireland by stating unless alternative arrangements can be found then the whole of the UK will remain in a customs union.

Hardcore Tory Brexiteers fear this will keep us tied to Europe for ever.

The DUP, which props up the Government, are against it because it could treat the province differently.

The EU is refusing to reopen the withdrawal agreement but it could The Prime Minister says she wants the extension to be as short as possible to avoid the UK having to take part in this summer’s European elections.

This could limit any extension to July 1 – the day before the new European Parliament sits.

However, extending Article 50 requires the unanimous approval of all 27 EU states.

They are likely to agree to it to avoid the damage of a no-deal Brexit but they also get to set the terms and time of any extension.

Some countries believe a two-year period in which the UK’s status is finally resolved is better than a short spell of extra time which fails to end the uncertainty.
