Tragic Kirsty ’clung to ledge’ before death fall
Expert believes she made bid to save herself
THE family of a Scot who fell from a balcony in Benidorm have been given fresh hope of finding out what led to her death.
A Spanish judge is set to review new evidence which could suggest Kirsty Maxwell “clung on” to the balcony before she plunged.
The 27-year-old died in April 2017, after falling 100ft from a 10th-floor apartment.
Kirsty, from Livingston, had arrived in Benidorm the day before for a friend’s hen party – just seven months after her own wedding. It’s believed she plunged from a balcony on the floor above where she was staying after arriving back at Payma Apartments following a night out with pals.
Her family have been told she may have scaled the barrier of the balcony and clung on to it before losing her grip.
The new evidence, from biomechanics expert Mike Brown, will be reviewed by a Spanish judge.
In addition, the circumstances surrounding Kirsty’s death will be investigated by one of the UK’s most experienced forensics scientists.
Kirsty’s dad Brian Curry told BBC Scotland’s The Nine programme: “We’ve got velocity fall experts and forensics experts because we need every piece of back-up to take it to the judge. We’ve got a goal – to find out some truth and answers.”
Five men from Nottingham were staying at the apartment block at the time of Kirsty’s death.
One of the men, Joseph Graham, was arrested on suspicion of homicide but was later released without charge.
