HALFORD’S A BIG DEAL FOR DONS BOSS

ABERDEEN v HAMILTON TONIGHT, 7.45, PITTODRIE

-

ABERDEEN last night snapped up experienced English defender Greg Halford on a deal until the end of the season.

And the 34- year- old could feature against Hamilton tonight if international clearance goes through in time.

The versatile former Sunderland and Wolves star can play at right-back or in central defence.

And Pittodrie boss Derek McInnes is thrilled to have landed him after injuries to Shay Logan and Tommie Hoban.

McInnes said: “I am delighted to bring someone of Greg ’ s experience and ability to the club. He’s a hugely versatile player and that made him very attractive.

“At this stage of the campaign it is difficult to bring any player in so I’m really pleased we’ve managed to secure someone of his stature.

“He is naturally excited about the prospect of coming to Aberdeen.”

Meanwhile, left-back Max Lowe bel ieves Brendan Rodgers’s exit gives Aberdeen and the rest of the chasing pack hope.

The 46-year-old left the league leaders yesterday for Leicester, having won all seven domestic trophies in his Celtic reign.

Lowe knows it might impact on the champions but is aware third-placed Aberdeen just have to look after their own results.

He said: “It will come into our heads that it is a bit of hope for us. We don’t want to cling on to that – we need to look at our own performances.”

Rodgers’s switch may have come as a shock to many but not Lowe. As a Midlands lad he knows just how big the Foxes are.

The Derby loanee said: “Leicester is a great job for him. In recent years they’ve probably been the biggest club in the Midlands.

“It is a great opportunity for him to do as well as he can with them, like when they won the league.”

Aberdeen are looking for their first home win in five games. McInnes isn’t too concerned about their poor Pittodrie form but does expect Brian Rice’s Accies to have a go after losing 5-0 to Rangers.

He said: “Normally when a manager goes into a relegation fight it is the usual mantra of being hard to beat and keeping clean sheets.

“But Brian has been quite refreshing because he has set his teams up to win and be as positive as they can.”
