Dundee boss tells players belief is key to shock win

TONIGHT, 7.45, IBROX

-

BY SCOTT BURNS JIM McINTYRE has told his Dundee players they can rattle Rangers but have to go to Ibrox believing.

Steven Gerrard’s side are back in the groove and on the goal trail but McIntyre believes his team can put the brakes on them.

He expects Rangers to push Celtic all the way in the title race but tonight he is more interested in the opposite end of the table and getting his Dundee team further away from the drop zone.

McIntyre said: “You can clearly see the last couple of games Rangers are scoring goals freely.

“Big performances like Sunday’s add to the confidence so yes, I am fully expecting them to be pushing all the way. You have to believe in what you do, just concentrate on the game and don’t worry about the crowd.

“For me, these are the places you want to go to. That’s why you are in football – you want to go and embrace playing at Ibrox, Parkhead, the big stadiums.

“So you have to go there and have a real belief in your ability for a start.

“If you go there with self-doubt then it can be a very long evening.”

Dundee had been on a good run themselves until they lost to Hibs on Friday.

McIntyre knows they shot themselves in the foot defensively and that is something they can’t afford to repeat at Ibrox.

He said: “Yes, 100 per cent. We defended like individuals rather than a group. We made bad individual errors that bit us hard because Hibs have good players.

“Most forward players in this league will punish you if you give them those types of opportunities.

“That was the frustrating thing because we’ve been better than that recently.”
