Asha Philip, Andrew Pozzi, below, and Katarina Johnson-Thompson EUROPEAN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP ATHLETICS BBC2, 6.30pm GET set for a weekend of sporting excellence as over 600 athletes head to Glasgow from 50 nations. First taking place in 1970, this is the 35th championships to showcase the best of European athletics and we’ve been promised three days of action-packed and intense competition. Great Britain is sending a 48-strong squad to the Emirates Arena, and there are plenty of superstars to keep your eye on. Laura Muir, Asha Philip, Richard Kilty and Andrew Pozzi will all be defending titles. Muir, from Inverness, who smashed a 31-yearold British record to win the indoor mile in Birmingham recently, will attempt to defend her 1,500m and 3,000m titles. Sprinters Philip and Kilty compete in the 60m events and Pozzi goes in the 60m hurdles. Pole vaulter Holly Bradshaw and heptathlete Katarina JohnsonThompson – who won gold at last year’s Commonwealth Games – are seeking to regain their titles. There’s live coverage across the weekend with Gabby Logan on main presenting duties. There’s also expert analysis and commentary from former stars Michael Johnson, Denise Lewis, Paula Radcliffe, Colin Jackson, Steve Cram, Andrew Cotter and Steve Backley. Sunday will see the dramatic finale to the championships as attention turns to the men’s and women’s 1,500m finals before the 4x400m relays. Fingers crossed we’ll be keeping plenty of gold, silver and bronze medals here on British soil.
