ANDY: VIRGIL’S BEST STOPPER IN THE WORLD
VIRGIL VAN DIJK has been hailed as “the world’s best defender” by Liverpool team-mate Andy Robertson.
Dutchman Van Dijk is key to the Reds’ title bid and has helped them concede a Premier League low of 15 goals in their 28 matches and record 16 clean sheets.
The former Celtic stopper is the only outfield player to have started every league match this season.
And Robertson says there is no better centrehalf in the world right now.
The Scotland captain said: “He makes my life easier. To have him next to me, it makes everything so much easier.
“When somebody is running at you then you know Virgil is inside because he’s rarely out of position.
“Ge’s the best centreback just now in the world, down to the way he’s playing and the confidence he has. And he’s still young enough that he can get even better.”
Robertson claims van Dijk is his Player of the Season because his performance levels are so consistently high.
He said: “If the season ended now, I would give him it. Virgil can take it to a whole new level. He’s so consistent as well.”
Van Dijk showed he can also make an impact in the opponents’ box by scoring twice in Liverpool’s 5-0 midweek drubbing of Watford at Anfield.
And Robertson claims this is an area where he knows he can improve.
The left-back said: “Probably the only disappointment for him is that he hasn’t chipped in with enough goals.”
