LEWIS BEATS CALVIN TO TOP OF THE CHART

- by RICK FULTON

LEWIS Capaldi dubbed himself a “one-hit wonder” after he scored his first No1 single yesterday.

The 22-year-old from Bathgate, West Lothian, beat fellow Scot Calvin Harris to the top spot in the UK charts.

His hit Someone You Loved reached No1 after clocking up 58,000 sales plus six million streams over the past week.

The song entered the top 100 at No66 on January 17 and has steadily climbed the chart over the past weeks.

Lewis said yesterday: “This is my first No1, so I’m officially a one-hit wonder on the Official Charts.”

In one of his famous YouTube videos, he added: “I was going to thank my parents for everything they’ve done. But then I started to think, ‘What is it they’ve done?’

“Sure, they’ve made love to make me. That’s fine. But other than that what have they done? Fed me. Take me to school. Never wanted to go.

“So what have they done musically? Not much. So I just want to say thanks to me, I guess, for everything I’ve done.”

Superstar DJ Calvin, from Dumfries, had to settle for the No2 spot with his latest single Giant, which features the vocals of Rag’n’Bone Man.

And Tom Walker made it three Scots in the top 10, with Just You & I rising to No10 following his British Breakthrough Act win at the Brit Awards.

Last night Calvin, who has had 10 UK No1 singles, tweeted that Lewis’s chart success was “extremely well deserved”.
