Paisley pattern set to conquer world again after Parisians jet in
A TOP Paris fashion house is set to take the Paisley pattern global after being stunned by the beauty of the historic designs.
A team from Maison Hermes visited Paisley Museum last year to run the rule over the world’s biggest collection of Paisley shawls.
And Hermes designers have now turned their favourite patterns into two scarves and a bangle, ready for their 2019 spring/summer collections.
Christine Duvigneau, artistic director of the exclusive “Paisley from Paisley” project, said: “We were delighted to collaborate with Paisley, and hope our designs will serve as an ambassador for Paisley worldwide.”
Hermes were tipped off about the treasure trove in the museum by Penny Martin of The Gentlewoman magazine, who contacted them after speaking at a fashion conference in Paisley in 2016.
Dan Coghlan, textiles curator at the museum, is delighted with the new partnership.
He said: “During the 18th and 19th centuries, Paisley was one of the leading towns in Europe for high-quality fashion fabrics.
“Much of the legacy of this great tradition is now preserved in the museum.
“This collaboration with Hermes shows that the collection can be used by today’s designers to continue Paisley’s tradition of beautiful high-quality textiles.”
Versions of the bangle and one of the scarves are being donated to the town, and will be on display in the museum in 2022 when it reopens after a £42million facelift.
