FULHAM IS A NO-BRAINER FOR CLARKE

-

CRAIG BROWN reckons it’d be a no-brainer for Steve Clarke if Fulham offer him a return to west London.

The Kilmarnock boss is among the favourites to replace Claudio Ranieri after the Italian was axed with the Cottagers 19th in the Premier League.

Brown worked in an advisory role at Fulham when Chris Coleman appointed him in 2005 and also managed Clarke, handing him the last of six Scotland caps in 1994.

Clarke has worked wonders at Rugby Park and Killie can move to within just a point of Aberdeen in third place with victory in today’s rearranged clash with Motherwell in Ayrshire.

The 55-year-old was close to taking over at Fulham when, while boss of Reading, he held talks with owner Shahid Khan before rejecting the offer.

But Khan could launch a second attempt at landing Clarke who reiterated he won’t leave Killie for another Scottish club as he confirmed he’ll return to England one day.

Brown said: “Steve spent most of his life in London with Chelsea and BY GAVIN BERRY his family are still based there so I’d have thought it would be a no-brainer if Steve is offered it.

“It’s no surprise if he’s on Fulham’s radar. He’s got great experience and his record at West Brom and Reading was good.

“Fulham doesn’t sound the most glamorous club, they’re second bottom, but if Steve wants to get back to England you can only go where you’re invited.

“It’s a nice working environment but it’s a tough task on the park.

“I can see why they’d be attracted to him given the job he’s done at Killie and with his London connection. He’s proved his worth north and south of the border.

“Fulham’s a smashing club and they’ve got a nice training ground. What they desperately need is continuity.

“So if Steve decided he wanted to return to England then Fulham would be a nice fit. The resources are far greater in the Premier League due to the massive TV income and, as Brendan Rodgers has shown, it’s hard to turn down.”
