WE MUST STUB OUT ALF TO REACH HAMPDEN

-

MIKEY DEVLIN is in no doubt Aberdeen can singe Rangers’ Scottish Cup hopes – but knows they’ll have to douse Alfredo Morelos’s fire first.

The Premiership’s top scorer has been sent off three times against Dons but in the last game at Pittodrie, when he was sent off along with Scott McKenna, he scored twice.

And since his return from a ban the Light Blues have been a frightening proposition.

Devlin is well aware of how big a threat the controversial Colombian is going into tomorrow’s Cup quarter-final clash at Pittodrie.

He said: “Morelos is a competitive player. He plays right on the line but that’s what makes him so good, that he plays with that bit of fire in his game. That’s what makes him a handful.

“That’s a side of the game you look forward to. You’ve got a player who won’t hold back and he’ll use whatever he can to make sure his performance levels are where he wants to be.

“He’s a good player, his goals speak for themselves.

“We know he can cause problems if you don’t take care of him, so whatever defence is picked will know they have a tough job keeping him quiet.”

Going up against the hotheaded striker will be a new experience for Devlin because he has only played against him for minutes before he got sent packing at Pittodrie on the first day of the season.

He said: “He missed the cup semi-final, which I played in, played in the game at Ibrox which I was injured for then I didn’t play in the game here.

“You’ve got to relish those challenges. You want to play in the biggest matches against the biggest players and on current form, he’s one of the best players in the league.

“Going into a game like this, form goes out the window and it’s a clean slate for everyone.”
