Elliott draws comfort as Jags bid to make history

-

CHRISTIE ELLIOTT insists Partick Thistle can reach their first Scottish Cup Final since 1930.

The full-back’s smash and grab goal earned the Jags a 1-1 draw against Hearts at Firhill on Monday night and another crack at the Edinburgh men.

The winners of next Tuesday’s quarter-final replay clash will face Inverness in the semi-final for the right to march through to Hampden on May 25.

Elliott insists the Partick players need no bigger incentive as they attempt create a slice of club history.

A win would also send the Jags through to their first Scottish Cup semi since 2002.

Elliott said: “The semi-final draw is a massive incentive. It is a game we know we can win but obviously we have to take care of the Hearts replay first.

“We had to weather the storm in the first half against Hearts.

“In the second half we were much better.

“We have to take a lot of positives, go to Tynecastle and hopefully get through.”

Elliott admits the Maryhill men will now travel to Edinburgh confident they can get a result.

The 27-year-old said: “I was saying to the lads I always get the opportunity to score and luckily I was in the right place at the right time.

“Hopefully we can show what we can do at Tynecastle. We have to go there with no fear.”
