Terror cops link uni bomb scare with London alerts

BY KATHLEEN SPEIRS A LETTER bomb sent to a Scots university is being linked to three explosive devices found in London on Tuesday, police revealed last night.

The device discovered in the mailroom at the University of Glasgow yesterday morning was similar to those sent to Waterloo Station and offices at Heathrow and London City airports.

Counter-terror police are still working to identify a motive or a suspect behind the letter bomb campaign but think all the packages may have come from the same source in Ireland.

Police Scotland last night confirmed that they are “sharing informatio­n and intelligen­ce” with the Metropolit­an Police.

Several buildings at the university were evacuated and nearby roads closed after the discovery yesterday.

A controlled explosion was later carried out on the device.

The packages that arrived in London on Tuesday were posted with Irish stamps and had Dublin as the return address. One of them caught fire when it was opened but no one was injured.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson, of Police Scotland, said: “The package sent to the university was not opened and no one was injured.
