JO LOVING IT WITH SCOTS

SCOTLAND...1 DENMARK...0 ALAN CAMPBELL AT THE ALGARVE CUP

-

JO LOVE insists Scotland can look forward to the World Cup after a secondstring side beat Euro 2017 finalists Denmark to round off the Algarve Cup.

A first-half goal from Jane Ross helped the Scots claim their second win in the tournament after a 4-1 trouncing of Iceland.

That followed a 1-0 loss to Canada in their opener and Shelley Kerr’s side finished a respectable fifth in the 12-team event.

Kerr made 10 changes to the side that had beaten Iceland 48 hours earlier to protect her players from injury and burnout.

And when asked if this was the best Scotland squad she had played in Love, who made her debut in 2002, said: “Definitely. Everything has gone up a gear – fitness, technical ability, tactical ability.

“The talent is unbelievable. It’s hard to keep up with it at times but I’m still trying.

“There haven’t been many weak links. It has been a different game plan for every game and we’ve

stuck to them. Denmark are ahead of us in the FIFA rankings. We deserved it today and it’s good that Shelley can trust the rest of the squad.”

Glasgow City star Love, 33, is Scotland’s mostcapped outfield player and is now just 11 short of her double century.

She was made captain for the day but joked: “It’s always nice to get a start, never mind to be skipper.

“I’m proud every time I put the jersey on so to lead the team out is a great achievement.”

Scotland started well, with Zoe Ness hitting the bar, but Denmark were coming back into it when Ross scored.

The West Ham striker ran on to a fine though ball from Love and fired in a shot from 25 yards which deceived Danish keeper Katrine Abel.

Ness rattled the bar with another shot before halftime while Ross also came close to a second goal.

The Danes did little to trouble Hibs goalie Jenna Fife on her second start.
