“This is completely separate to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry set up by the Scottish Government.

“You may have vital informatio­n that would assist our enquiry and other former residents who have come forward with reports of abuse. We are therefore keen to speak to you to discuss your memories of the school.”

Allan said: “The police letter THE SALESIANS were founded in Italy in the 19th century by St John Bosco to help poor youngsters and now have 16,000 priests worldwide.

Of those, 63 are based in normal relationsh­ips and not remain celibate.

“This may help them get over the repressed sexuality that seems to be at the heart of much of this abuse.

“We’re living in the 21st century not the dark ages.”

Last night a Salesians’ spokesman said: “I have no knowledge of the allegation­s that you mention and cannot comment.

“Please pass the details that you have received of this allegation to the police.” eight communitie­s in the UK.

In May 2013, the Salesian College in Battersea, London, which closed in 2011, was a key focus of another abuse investigat­ion.

The Aberdour site is now occupied by Hillside School – an independen­t special school for boys with additional support needs.

It is under its own management and has NO link to the original school.
