I’m suited & booted for derby

-

BY GARY RALSTON SCOTT MARTIN would love a dressing down from the ref if it means he’s dressing up around Hamilton tonight.

The midfielder is in line for his first Lanarkshire derby at Fir Park after a win at Aberdeen that moved Accies out of the relegation zone.

He’d love to put one over the Motherwell starlets who have been his rivals since school but have since become friends.

But more than anything he’s desperate to grab his first Accies goal.

The 21-year-old said: “If it doesn’t go to plan I’ll be hiding under my bed. But if we win I’ll have my suit jacket on and be walking around the town.

“One area I need to improve on is goalscoring. When I was younger I was encouraged to go forward more but as I’ve got older I’ve been sitting behind the ball more often.

“I’ve had opportunities to score but I get a nose bleed in the box. If I find the net I’ll go absolutely mental. There’ll be a yellow card coming out.

“I’ve played against David Turnbull, Jake Hastie and Allan Campbell – who was hard as nails even at Under-10s – but I can’t give them too many compliments.

“We also played against each other for our school teams in games that were always mayhem.

“I could snap anyone I wanted because I was the footballer in our school and the teachers didn’t say anything. You could tell they were good players even then.”
