2ND COMING Dons star Dom: Don’t rule us out of runner-up fight just yet

- BY SCOTT BURNS

DOMINIC BALL is adamant Aberdeen can still finish in the top two.

The midfielder also believes beating champions Celtic today would be the perfect shot in the arm to those ambitions.

Aberdeen are eight points behind Rangers in second but Ball is in no doubt that ground can be made up over the final 10 games. He said: “We’re not going to hold back and settle for third or fourth.

“We’ve been second in the last four years and that’s always been the target.

“We’ve made it hard for ourselves at times with some poor results but getting three points on Saturday will mean we’re taking a step in the right direction.”

Aberdeen did win on their last visit to Parkhead. It was the final day of last season and it saw the Dons clinch second spot.

Ball said: “There was a feeling of confidence in the changing room that day throughout the squad. We really felt we were going to get a result. We stuck to our plan and individually everybody did their job.

“From the moment we got the goal I thought we’d go on to win. We were playing well and we were motivated to finish the season on a high and most importantly get that second place.

“We understand Celtic will be our toughest opponent in the away games remaining but we’ve beaten them down there before and can do it again.”

The Dons are on a good run of form away and if they win today they would claim a club record of eight straight.

Ball added: “We know the quality we have as a team and the confidence of the last few performances means we’re going to Parkhead to win.

“We’ve had some big wins against Rangers and Celtic in Glasgow in the past couple of years and we have the players who can deal with those big games.”

The recent injury crisis has also seen Ball get a regular run in the Aberdeen team and he said: “For me it’s about doing my job for the team and in the last few games I think I’ve done that.”
