LENNON STEPS UP PLANS FOR NEXT SEASON

Boss holds summit with Congerton

- by michAEl GANNON

NEIL LENNON has revealed he’s already held talks with celtic head of recruitment Lee congerton over potential summer signings. the hoops manager admitted he does not know if he has a future beyond the end of the season after answering the SOS following

the shock departure of Brendan Rodgers.

Congerton has been tipped to follow the former boss to Leicester, with Anderlecht and two MLS clubs also in the frame.

But Lennon insisted the pair have held discussions over the rebuilding job required at Parkhead.

The Hoops could lose a raft of players – including on-loan Timo Weah, Oliver Burke, Filip Benkovic and Jeremy Toljan, plus out of contract Dedryck Boyata, Mikael Lustig, Jonny Hayes, Emilio Izaguirre and Cristian Gamboa.

Lennon said: “I had a meeting with Peter and Lee on Wednesday so there are plans in place.

“There are positions and players identified and a plan going forward so it’s business as usual until I’m told otherwise.

“It was good to meet him and have a few hours with him. I enjoyed his company and I was really impressed with what he had in mind. Whether that changes I don’t know but it’s not the impression I got from Lee.”

Lennon’s full focus is on achieving success in the remainder of this season but is aware of the need to rebuild in the summer.

He said: “Even if Brendan had been here it still would have needed a bit of work.

“Some of the players are away in tournaments and it’s important to do as much business as quickly as possible. If we can get it done now even better.”

Lennon’s own future is not set in stone but he is only interested in getting Celts over the line in the league and Scottish Cup.

Lennon said: “There’s nothing guaranteed and that’s fine. It’s not about me, it’s about the club.

“It’s not about me completing the Treble, it’s about making sure the players do. I’m only in here for 12 or 15 games so it’d be a job well done but we still have a lot of work to do.”
