Sir Mo, that’s not Half bad

Farah to make call on track return

- BY MARK WOODS

SIR Mo Farah enjoyed the ideal build-up to April’s London Marathon with a second successive victory in the Vitality Big Half yesterday.

Farah outsprinted training partner Bashir Abdi and Daniel Wanjiru to cross the line in Greenwich in 61 minutes 15 seconds, while Britain’s Charlotte Purdue also retained her title in the elite women’s race.

Purdue finished ahead of Scotland’s Steph Twell who claimed second place with Charlotte Arter in third.

Farah revealed on Friday he is considering a return to the track to defend his 10,000m title at this year’s World Championships.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist called time on his glittering track career in 2017 to concentrate on marathon running but is weighing up a comeback in Doha this autumn.

Farah, 35, said: “Conditions were a bit tougher than last year, very windy but it was nice to get the job done and come first. It’s a nice stepping stone.

“After the marathon we’ll make a decision about what I want to do but deep down I do miss the track.”

Twell, aiming to follow up her Scottish cross-country win, held a commanding lead for much of the race but was caught by defending champion Purdue and eventually finished 55 seconds behind the Englishwoman who took victory in 70 minutes and 38 seconds.

● Mhairi Maclennan is set for a spot in the GB team for this month’s World Cross-country Championships after a third place at the trials in Loughborough.
