BOY, 13, KNIFED IN STREET HORROR

PUPIL ATTACKED DURING LUNCH BREAK

The 13-year-old boy was last night being treated in hospital following the incident in Glasgow’s south side.

His condition was said to be serious but not critical.

The pupil was out for lunch from Shawlands Academy when he was attacked in Kilmarnock Road.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Witnesses told the Record they saw the pupil lying in the road outside a newsagents with a large leg wound.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said paramedics were at the scene within two minutes of receiving a call at 1.34pm. A spokeswoma­n added: “A male patient was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”

A local business owner said there were “crowds of scared kids round the boy lying on the ground”.

He added: “A girl had her hand over his leg. When she moved her hand away, you could just see a big gash along his leg that was bleeding a lot.”

Frantic parents gathered at Shawlands Academy on nearby Moss-side Road.

A mum said: “It’s petrifying to think that kids have knives on them now. This could have been anyone’s child.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: “Very worrying incident in my constituen­cy and my thoughts are with the injured boy. I’ve had an update from the local police, and I know they’re doing everything possible to investigat­e the incident and provide appropriat­e reassuranc­e around the school over next few days.”

Police said they were called to reports of a teenage boy “being stabbed during a disturbanc­e”. A spokeswoma­n added: “A 15-year-old male youth has been arrested.”

Glasgow City Council said: “The school is helping the police with their inquiries.”
