HOME C4, 9.45pm FUNNY and well-observed, this comedy from Rufus Jones is one of the best new shows on the box.

You can find episode one on catch-up, which started with a family arriving home from holiday in Dorking, Surrey, only to discover a Syrian refugee hiding in their boot.

In order to squeeze in, he’d left their luggage at a petrol station in Calais.

Katy (Rebekah Staton) and her boyfriend Peter, played by Jones, are in complete disagreement about what to do about the situation. But it’s Katy’s house and what she says goes, so Sami (Youssef Kerkour) moves in with them and Katy’s son John.

In this second episode, Sami is now an official asylum seeker and proudly posts his letter to the Home Office.

John, who prefers Sami much more than his mum’s irritating boyfriend Peter, organises the spare room so that Sami feels at home.

But Sami soon learns that not everyone is as friendly and welcoming.

Watch out for a brilliantly played out scene when Sami encounters an obnoxious man in a post office queue who tells him to “go back home”.

There are laughs as Sami befriends corner shop owner Raj, who gives him some hints and tips about the British way of life.

And there are capers as Peter, Sami and John go in search of a stolen phone when they should be at a petting zoo eating a packet of Quavers.

This is a timely look at the current political climate with some poignant moments, while also making you belly laugh at the same time.
