Russell: We won’t get our Twickers in a twist

Struggling Scots not going to hit panic button says Finn

-

FINN RUSSELL is adamant struggling Scotland won’t panic and change their game for the Calcutta Cup clash with England.

Gregor Townsend and his injury-ravaged squad are long odds against for Saturday’s Six Nations finale at Twickenham after three successive losses in this year’s competition.

Russell insisted he and his team-mates can bounce back to claim their first win down south for 36 years.

He said: “We will not tailor our game just to face England. We will keep on playing the same fast and attacking rugby down there.

“What we do need to do is find that killer instinct in the finish zone.

“We created a lot of chances against Wales on Saturday but didn’t turn them into points.

“I am certainly not going to change the way I play and the game plan won’t change just because we have more injuries.

“Boys will come into the side and fill these positions and they will perform well.

“They might do different things to the guys they are BY DAVID KELSO replacing but our overall game plan will be the same.”

Russell dismissed claims by England coach Eddie Jones that Scotland’s “over celebrations” at Murrayfield last year will inspire his side.

He said: “That sort of thing doesn’t involve us.

“For a Scotsman this game is more important than the rest, though maybe not in the context of the tournament.

“We can put our best foot forward this time.”

Meanwhile, assistant coach Mike Blair bristled at claims the Scots don’t hurt enough when they lose.

The former World Cup skipper said: “I don’t know where that impression comes from.

“You should have seen our changing room after the Wales game. There were lots of really unhappy guys in there after losing twice on the trot at home.

“There was silence and Jonny Gray and Tommy Seymour, who were earning their 50th caps, were as hurt as anyone. They deserved respect for reaching that milestone and it deserved to be celebrated.”
