THREE KILLED IN BUS CRASH HORROR
BY CHARLIE GALL AND JENNIFER HYLAND EMERGENCY services faced a scene of “absolute carnage” after a bus and two cars were involved in a fatal crash yesterday.
Three people died and four were taken to hospital with serious injuries – one by air ambulance.
The accident happened five miles south of Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, on the northbound A90.
Tragedy struck at about 4.30pm at the tricky turn-off to the village of Drumlithie.
The collision involved a Citylink Gold Megabus, a red Renault Megane and a silver Ford B-Max.
All of the dead and seriously injured were from the two cars. Firefighters had to cut victims from the vehicles.
The bus driver suffered minor injuries.
The passengers escaped injury but were said to be “shocked and shaken”.
First aider Jillie Aitchison, 45, who was among the first on the scene, told a local radio station last night: “It was absolute carnage.
“I stopped my car along with other first aiders to help.”
Speaking at the crash site, Chief Inspector Stewart Mackie said: “It was a very chaotic scene when we arrived and a challenging one for all the emergency services to deal with.
“Sadly, three people have died as a result of the collision.
“Four others have been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. I understand that their injuries are not life-threatening. “There’s no children involved. “My sympathies go out to the relatives of those involved in the collision.”
The investigation into the crash was last night being hampered by horrendous weather conditions, including driving rain and high winds.
Mackie added: “The weather is pretty awful and it’s a very challenging scene for my staff and the other emergency services.
