UPDATE

-

MHAIRI MACLENNAN, Luke Traynor and Eloise Walker will get a shot at this month’s world crosscountry champs after the Scots trio were named in a 24-strong British team.

Former Euro Cross gold medallist Maclennan – now coached by exEuropean champion Helen Clitheroe – came third at last weekend’s trials to all but seal her first senior vest.

Traynor came sixth to press his case while Walker makes a first GB&NI runout in the junior team after a fourth in the U20 event.

Eilish McColgan has panned the IAAF’s plans to ditch distances of more than 3000 metres in the Diamond League from 2020.

The Euro 5000m silver medallist said: “We have such a massive disconnect between elite distance running and the millions of people who love to race Park Runs, 10k and marathons.

“We need to engage those people and get them tuning in to watch the events they love to run.” CRICKET: A shot clock in Test cricket is one of a number of new measures for the longest form of the game being proposed by a group of leading figures.

Slow over rates in Test cricket is cited as a factor that puts punters off going to matches. Now the MCC World Cricket Council has raised the idea of a timer that could result in penalty runs being dished out. MOTO: Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes team will be “pushed to our limits”, says team chief Toto Wolff.

The Australian Grand Prix kicks off the Formula One season on Sunday with Ferrari firing in testing.

Wolff said: “Judging from the performance in Barcelona it looks like we’ll have a proper fight on our hands. But an F1 season is not just about who comes out of the blocks quickest.” TENNIS: Pole Hubert Hurkacz shocked Japanese world No.7 Kei Nishikori 4-6 6-4 6-3 to reach the fourth round at Indian Wells.
