Queiroz: Alf is our future

-

ALFREDO MORELOS has been hailed as the future for Colombia by Carlos Queiroz after he handed the Rangers striker an international recall.

Morelos is in the South American country’s squad for the friendly matches in Japan a week on Friday and in South Korea four days later .

And Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard will be hoping his star gets through the games unscathed ahead of the Old Firm clash at the end of this month.

Former Real Madrid and Portugal manager Queiroz has made it clear he’s a big fan of Morelos after including him ahead of the £30million Villarreal striker Carlos Bacca, who has been capped 52 times.

Queiroz said: “It was a difficult call to name the squad because we have so many talented players.

“I called up Alfredo because he is in very good form for Rangers as you can see with the number of goals he has scored.

“I wanted to give Alfredo a chance. He’s young and is the future of football in Colombia.

“Carlos is not out of my plans at all but I wanted to take a good look at Alfredo in these games.

“I haven’t closed the door on Carlos.

“But I need to look to the future and Alfredo is young and he represents that.”

‘After the recent disgraceful scenes in football, at least it will put a stop to the “Neil Lennon brings it on himself brigade”’

should have addressed the issue of fans coming onto the pitch after the 2016 final pitch invasion.

“If you’re caught on the park then you should be jailed for six months. That’s the only way to stop it.”

said: “I hear a lot of people calling for Hibs to have a stand shut down but I didn’t hear any of this when a fan ran onto the pitch at Ibrox to try and get to Leigh Griffiths before Scott Brown intervened.

“These ugly scenes have only happened since Rangers returned to the top flight.”

The recent actions of supporters have taken the heat off our referees who had previously dominated the headlines with some of their decisions.

Brendan Rodgers called for full-time whistlers shortly before he left Celtic for Leicester City but he might find standards aren’t much better down in his new environment.

said: “Rodgers spoke about having full-time refs in Scotland but going by the Premier League it’d be a waste of time.

“At the weekend Liverpool’s goalkeeper was clearly fouled for Burnley’s first goal, a Spurs player raked his studs down a Southampton player’s shin and only got a booking and the best of all was Newcastle had five players offside at their winning goal against Everton.”

Meanwhile, emailed: “I’d like to give a mention to former Scottish footballer Bobby Doyle who died recently as it seems to have gone unnoticed.

“As a schoolboy footballer in Dumbarton and Clydebank he was tipped for the top and played for Barnsley, Peterborough and Hull City where he picked up an injury that forced him to retire.” CALL THE HOTLINE TODAY FROM 11 TILL 12 NOON on: 0141 309 3306 oremail us: hotline@dailyrecord.co.uk
