Gang of three flee scene after injuring father and son in blade attack

-

A BUSINESSMAN suffered serious head injuries in a murder bid by three masked men at his £1.7million home.

David McMillan, 48, was attacked with a blade in his house in one of Edinburgh’s most expensive streets.

The gang slashed the hand of his 22-year-old son, also David, after he tried to intervene.

The attackers fled Pitcairn Grove in the city’s Greenbank area in an Audi A5.

The vehicle was set ablaze in nearby Oxgangs.

Detectives said the victim suffered a “sustained attack” which they were treating as attempted murder.

The incident took place at about 5.30pm on Wednesday.

A 43-year-old woman in the property heard a disturbance in the hallway and was met by the three men who had entered the address armed with a bladed weapon.

The thugs set upon David, leaving him badly hurt. His son tried to step in and suffered a hand laceration.

Emergency services attended and both the injured men were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police said David Snr remained in a “serious but stable” condition in hospital last night while his son was released after treatment. The suspects arrived at the plush sixbedroom house in a black Audi A5 bearing the false registration plate YN63 MKD.

After it had been set ablaze, residents reported hearing bangs coming from the burning vehicle.

The fire service attended and extinguished the flames.

The suspects are believed to have left the Oxgangs area in a second vehicle, described as a silver hatchback car, possibly a Ford Focus.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Bruce Coutts said: “The 48-year-old man has suffered serious injuries as a result of this incident and was subjected to a sustained attack with a weapon.

“We believe the three men involved were all wearing black clothing and balaclavas covering their faces and used two vehicles during the course of the incident.

“I’m especially eager to hear from anyone who may have seen either the Audi A5 in the area of Pitcairn Grove immediately prior to, or after the incident, or who saw the suspects leave the Oxgangs area in the silver car after abandoning the Audi in Harperrigg Way.

“I’d also urge anyone who can help us identify those involved to come forward as soon as possible.”

A police car was stationed outside the Greenbank address yesterday.

Pitcairn Grove has appeared in lists of the 10 most expensive streets in Scotland, with houses fetching an average £1.4million.
