Our doing off Well did not make Rice viewing

- BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY

HAMILTON boss Brian Rice admits he pored over last weekend’s 3-0 drubbing to Motherwell to see what his men could improve on.

The Accies gaffer held a talk with his side in the aftermath of their Lanarkshire derby hell.

But Rice insisted it was not about apportioning blame to individuals.

The 55-year-old admitted he was hurt by his first derby experience as a boss.

Rice said: “I watched the highlights of the Motherwell game on Saturday night and the full game on Sunday in the house.

“I sat down and had my notepad out and I wrote down the good bits, the bad bits and the very bad bits.

“It’s quite easy to criticise everything and hard to pick out positives.

“We trained on Monday morning, blew away the cobwebs and watched the first half and then we had a discussion.

“You can’t do anything about the past, you can only affect the future.

“It was a casual meeting. It wasn’t about picking players out.

“I would never single players out for criticism.

“They had their say and we spoke about things. It was a good discussion.

“It was my first derby experience and we let ourselves down badly.

“You can’t dwell on these results though.”

Rice is hoping to fare better when his men take on Hearts at the Hope CBD Stadium tomorrow.

Ironically Rice never got the better of Jambos gaffer Craig Levein during their playing days when they were on opposite sides of the Edinburgh divide.

Rice said: “I never beat Hearts when I played for Hibs. We will have a go.

“I’m expecting us to be better this week.”
