Liverpool have now shown we are no run of the Mil side

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

JAMES MILNER insists Liverpool have proved they are genuinely feared across Europe again.

The stunning 3-1 triumph in Bayern Munich on Wednesday night has put them into today’s Champions League quarter-final draw.

And the Reds midfield star reckons they have been given the status they deserve.

Milner said: “I’d like to think teams have that respect for us – we know how good we can be.

“But whether teams take notice is not really for us to worry about. They take notice after they have played us and we have put them out.”

The Premier League is Liverpool’s holy grail, with the barren run without the trophy now stretching back almost 29 years.

Yet Milner is convinced this squad is good enough to dream big in the Champions League too having reached last year’s final where they were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid.

Their glory in Munich saw them become the fourth English team in the last eight ahead as they joined Manchester City, Manchester United and Spurs.

Ajax, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus, Porto and Lionel Messi’s Barcelona make up the last eight.

And despite that quartet Milner does not want an English opponent.

He said: “We are in two competitions and we can manage that game-wise.

“There are positives to being in this competition. We want to win it.

“But I don’t particularly want to play any of the others English clubs to be honest. It is always a weird feeling playing an English team in Europe.”
