It’s Dee Day for Jim as strugglers eye a shock

- BY SCOTT BURNS

JIM McINTYRE insists struggling Dundee can stun the champions and get their season back on track.

The Dark Blues will host Celtic at home on Sunday looking for a massive three points that would provide a shot in the arm to their survival hopes.

Dee sit second bottom of the table but McIntyre has faith even taking a point off the Hoops could make all the difference.

He said: “The next game is as tough as they come and Celtic won’t be as direct as Hearts – they like to play through the lines. Their movement is fluid.

“We’ve got a lot of work to get the right result but on our day we’re capable.”

The experienced boss also praised Craig Curran for playing through the pain barrier.

The former Ross County striker has been struggling with a stomach problem for several weeks but has continued to put himself forward due to the Dees’ lack of attacking options.

Curran played an hour against Hearts even though he hadn’t trained the entire week and is likely to lead the line at Dens Park on Sunday.

McIntyre said: “Craig came through the game well. He was knackered which was to be expected because he hadn’t done any training whatsoever.

“He has an inner belief and determination to get himself through but he knows he would have much rather had a training week under his belt.”

Curran has played up front alongside veteran Kenny Miller with on-form Andrew Nelson struggling with a heel injury.

McIntyre said: “He’s not any better. It’s slow progress. He feels pain when he puts his foot into his boot, it squeezes the heel.”
