Record and Mail writers in running for awards

BY SALLY HIND THE Daily Record and Sunday Mail have been nominated for a string of accolades at the Scottish Press Awards.

The Record’s Political Editor David Clegg is up for Political Journalist of the Year and Scoop of the Year for his exclusive on Alex Salmond being investigat­ed by the Scottish Government.

Keith McLeod is up for Reporter of the Year and Sports News Writer of the Year.

The Record has two nomination­s for Campaign of the Year with “Justice For Shaun” – led by crime reporter Jane Hamilton and launched following the killing of Shaun Woodburn in Leith in 2017 – and our “Stub Out The Touts” campaign, led by chief reporter Mark McGivern.

Chief writer Annie Brown has been nominated for the Nicola Barry Award and Rick Fulton is up for the Arts/Entertainm­ent Journalist of the Year.

The Record’s digital team is also up for two awards, Digital Team of the Year and Journalism Team of the Year for their live coverage of the Beast from the East.

The Glasgow Live team are also shortliste­d for Digital Team of the Year, while Jonathan McFarlane and Jack Aitchison are up for Outstandin­g Digital Journalist.

Our sister paper the Sunday Mail is nominated for Journalism Team of the Year, while editor Brendan McGinty is shortliste­d for Scoop of the Year.

Its “Pride and Prejudice” front page is shortliste­d in that category, while political editor John Ferguson is up for Financial/Business Journalist of the Year.

The Record’s chief football writer Keith Jackson is nominated for Sports News Writer of the Year, and Gordon Waddell is up for Sports Columnist of the Year for the Sunday Mail.

The awards will be held in Glasgow on April 25.
