The BBC series was also voted Best Drama Series and won the Best Online First/Streaming prize.

A Very English Scandal was named Best Single Drama/Mini-Series and Hugh Grant, who played former Liberal leader Jeremy Thorpe, was named Best Actor.

Russell T Davies, who penned the script, won the Best Writer Award. BY MARTIN FRICKER THESE are the two young brothers killed in a horrific hit-and-run smash involving a Bentley allegedly racing an Audi.

In the family photo, Sanjay Singh, 10, cuddles Pawanveer, 23 months, as they pose in festive jumpers.

The pair, described as beautiful children by grieving relatives, died when their mother’s BMW was hit side-on by a speeding Audi S3, sending it crashing through railings.

A resident living near the crash site said: “My son went out and could hear someone screaming, ‘My babies, my babies’.”

Witnesses claim the £200,000 Bentley Continental was racing the blue Audi.

Taxi driver Tanveer Hussain said two cars went by him “very, very fast” shortly before the smash in Wolverhampton. He added: “I got out of my car and other lads tended to the children. What I saw was terrible.

“It was too much. The mother was just in shock.”

The driver of the Bentley was arrested at the scene.

The 31-year-old was held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was quizzed overnight before being released yesterday lunchtime pending further police investigations.

Detectives are still hunting for the driver of the Audi, who fled on foot after crashing into the BMW at 8.45pm on Thursday night.

Sanjay and Pawanveer were both declared dead at the scene and their mother remains in hospital in a serious condition. In a statement issued through police, the distraught family from Dudley, West Midlands, paid tribute to the boys and appealed for the public’s help in finding the runaway Audi driver.

They said: “We are grieving over the tragic deaths of our two beautiful children as well as dealing with the shock of the horrific crash.

“We appeal to the public to come forward in order to help police find the perpetrator who fled from the scene and to bring him or her to justice. At this time, we would appreciate some privacy and space to grieve over our precious loss.”

The accident happened on Birmingham New Road – a hot-spot for dangerous driving.

The road was closed for six hours and accident investigators were on the scene overnight. The blue Audi could be seen with a crumpled front end.

Police and other local authorities previously appealed to the High Court to get by-laws in place to ban illegal races on the highway.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of Sanjay and Pawanveer Singh at this extremely difficult time.”

Appealing to the Audi driver, he added: “You may not be fully aware of the full tragic circumstances but you now need to speak to us.”
