No baize of glory again as McGill is sent home

-

ANTHONY McGILL’s Gibraltar Open title quest came to an untimely end in a battle of the Scots.

The Glaswegian’s sorry season continued as he lost 4-3 to Scott Donaldson in the second round.

McGill has pocketed just £20,500 during a tough campaign, which has seen him fall out of the top 16.

Donaldson was never behind, prevailing with a top break of 70. SWIMMING: Duncan Scott proved he’s far from a onetrick pony after scoring victory in the 200metres individual medley at the Edinburgh International.

The two-time Olympic medallist recovered from coming second to British rival James Guy in the 200m freestyle with an impressive showing on the first night.

Although the 100 and 200 free are his main focuses, he said: “It’s something I’ve always worked on.”

Ross Murdoch came second to James Wilby in the 200m breaststroke. ICE HOCKEY: Lukas Lundvald Nielsen grabbed a hat-trick as Dundee Stars stunned Glasgow Clan 5-1.

Matt Marquardt and Matt Bissonnette also struck as Stars boosted their Elite League play-off bid.

Brendan Connolly grabbed Clan’s consolation as a third straight defeat left them third in the pile. BASKETBALL: Glasgow Rocks gave their BBL playoff hopes a lift by slaying Manchester Giants 80-69.

It means Glasgow can move into the league’s top eight if they beat Worcester Wolves tomorrow. BOXING: Deontay Wilder is set to reject an £80million offer to box on streaming channel DAZN.

The deal would have cleared the way for the WBC heavyweight champ to face Anthony Joshua.
