Rankin: Our promotion hopes are still on boil

TEAMSHEET

LEAGUE TWO JOHN RANKIN’S missus was the one who made it on to Masterchef but he insists a points penalty hasn’t turned Clyde’s promotion hopes to toast.

News of the four-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player broke just hours before last week’s defeat by Elgin.

While Maria was starring on the TV show last month, the Bully Wee had been upping the heat on leaders Peterhead with their best unbeaten run in 62 years.

Now they’re looking to put off-field matters behind them at home to Stirling having tumbled 14 points off the top.

Clyde midfielder Rankin said: “The ambition was always to go up. We’ve still got a massive part to play in our season.

“We’ll never give up, we’ll keep going. Months ago we were written off then managed to get ourselves within a couple of points of Peterhead in going second.”

Opponents Stirling Albion have fallen 10 points off the play-off places and defender Jason Marr said: “It’s not impossible so we’ll keep going until it is impossible.” JASON KRONES is Albion Rovers’ only fitness doubt against Cowdenbeath who hope to have Jamie Pyper and Kris Renton back.

Annan are without injured Ryan Sinnamon and Jack Brannan to face Edinburgh City who have seven players out.

Berwick include keeper Kyle Allison on the injured list to host Peterhead who miss Simon Ferry with Jamie Stevenson a doubt.

Clyde add Barry Cuddihy but miss banned Tom Lang against Stirling Albion who have Darren Smith suspended.

And Queen’s Park miss four players against Elgin who have Darryl McHardy suspended.
