It’s thrill for Spector as defender joins Hibs

-

BY ALAN MARSHALL HIBS have signed American defender Jonathan Spector on a free transfer to help ease their defensive woes.

The former Manchester United and West Ham ace has been offered a deal until the end of the season after impressing while training with the Easter Road club for a few weeks.

Spector was available after leaving Orlando City at the end of the MLS season and will boost boss Paul Heckingbottom’s defensive options with Ryan Porteous and Darnell Johnson both injured.

The 33-year-old revealed his family are delighted with the move and he now can’t wait to get started, although clearance will not come through in time for him to feature in this afternoon’s Premiership clash with Motherwell.

He said: “I’m excited and desperate to get going. The MLS season and the season over here doesn’t quite coincide so I’ve been off for a little bit. I’ve been building up my fitness.

“I’ve been here for a couple of weeks or so, which has given me a good transition period to get used to the lads and see how things are done here.

“As soon as I signed my wife sent me pictures of the boys in green shirts and they’ve made brownies.

“My four-year-old loves to bake with my wife so it’s any excuse to make brownies. This time they had green sprinkles on them, which was a cute way to show their support.”
