McInnes has condemned an element of his own club’s support for tarnishing their famous 2-0 Scottish Cup win at Rangers by singing the bigoted ‘Cheer Up Steven Gerrard song’ on Tuesday.

Those actions are now at the centre of probes from Police Scotland and the SFA but McInnes claimed those in a position of power had been more than happy to turn a blind eye to the issue in the past.

And McInnes, a former Rangers player, insisted nothing was done when he received the same treatment after his side’s 1-0 loss to Celtic at Hampden this season.

The Dons gaffer said: “There can’t be selective reporting on this, there can’t be selective condemnati­on of it, there can’t be selective investigat­ion from Police Scotland or whoever.

“It’s got to be all inclusive across the board, TODAY marks the fifth anniversar­y of Aberdeen’s League Cup triumph – and Derek McInnes hopes his team will savour another silver-lined season.

McInnes picked up his only trophy as Dons boss in 2014.

Aberdeen went to Parkhead and after a goalless war of attrition with Inverness won 4-2 on penalties, thanks to Adam Rooney’s clincher.

It set the standard for the McInnes reign and now he would love to put the seal on things by lifting this year’s Scottish Cup.

Aberdeen saw off Rangers on Tuesday night and now face Celtic in next month’s semifinal at Hampden.

The Dons have been second in every season under McInnes since but he’d gladly give that up to put another trophy in the Pittodrie cabinet.

McInnes said: “Winning the League Cup was a brilliant start for us that year.
