BY MICHAEL PRINGLE m.pringle@daily record.co.uk A COMMUNITY left sickened by a brutal attack on a vulnerable man in his own home have rallied round to give him their support.

Paul McGregor, 55, was stabbed and slashed after his attackers forced their way into his home in Germiston, Glasgow.

The injured man, wellknown locally as Baz, was left needing dozens of stitches to wounds on his face and body.

He was also unable to open his eyes after sustaining a suspected fracture to his eye socket.

Friends and members of the community have been left disgusted with the mindless attack on Paul, who they say “wouldn’t hurt a fly”.

The victim answered a knock at the door in Tiree E ON MAKE-UP WITHOUT THE MARK UP Street in the north of the city at about 3am on Saturday.

He was assaulted after refusing his attackers entry to his home which was also ransacked.

Recovering from his ordeal at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, he has told friends he won’t return home as he fears for his safety.

A close friend of Paul’s told the Record: “He can open his eyes now and his vision is OK. Hopefully, he will be discharged soon but he doesn’t want to go back to the house.”

Well-wishers have delivered essential items to him in hospital in an attempt to raise his spirits. It’s believed that Paul’s attackers were known to him and that his home was previously targeted in recent weeks and daubed with paint. A crowdfunding page was set up by a stranger after pictures of his injuries were posted on social media at the weekend. It raised more than £1100 in just over 24 hours. Members of the local community took to the crowdfunding page to donate and leave messages of support. “Known him a long time from my Royston days a man who would never pass you on the street”, said Brian McPhee. ●Yesterday, at Glasgow Sheriff Court an 18-year-old and 17-year-old appeared on charges in connection with the incident. They made no plea and the case was continued.
