T2 actor is shot dead
Residents told to stay indoors as cops lock down area
TRAINSPOTTING 2 actor Bradley Welsh was last night shot dead in a street assassination.
Welsh, 42, played gangster Doyle in T2 and is pals with Irvine Welsh.
A STAR of T2 Trainspotting died last night after being gunned down in a city street.
Bradley Welsh, a reformed football hooligan turned charity worker was killed by a shot to the head in the west end of Edinburgh.
The 42-year-old dad played gangland kingpin Doyle in T2 and was pals with Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh.
Police said: “On arrival of emergency services a man was found seriously injured in the street and sadly passed away at the scene.
“His death is being treated as suspicious and inquiries are continuing.”
Officers will continue to provide a high-visibility presence in the area to engage with the public, offer reassurance and gather information that can assist with this investigation.”
Armed police and paramedics flooded the scene on the city’s Chester Street after the incident at about 8.30pm.
The area was put on lockdown and residents were told to stay indoors, eyewitnesses said.
Welsh was a past British ABA lightweight boxing champion and has run charity projects in the city to help young people stay fit and out of trouble through his Holyrood Boxing Gym. He was also involved with Edinburgh charity Helping Hands, which fights inequality in the city.
In 2009, he appeared on Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men TV show.
Writing on social media, local resident Alasdair Morton, 46, said: “I came out the house and we were told to go back in. Three police cars and a black van drove along the street and the traffic then stopped.
“I initially thought it was a police escort then, when I had a look, there must have been a dozen or so police with guns pushing the traffic back.
“We’ve not been told anything but police waved through some ambulances.”
