Dennehy is in jail for life after killing three men and attempting to murder another two JOANNE DENNEHY: SERIAL KILLER
STV, 9pm JOANNE Dennehy became known as Britain’s most dangerous woman after a killing spree in 2013 which saw her murder three men and attempt to kill two others.
After she was caught and charged, showing no remorse for her victims, she became only the third woman in British history to be sentenced to spend the rest of her life behind bars.
For this new documentary in ITV’s Crime & Punishment strand, Susanna Reid speaks to the people connected to the case of one of Britain’s most notorious serial killers.
It’s usually her Good Morning Britain colleague Piers Morgan who presents this type of show, going into prisons to meet women on death row, but she’s tackling this one – speaking to the lead detective, the father of Dennehy’s two children, a man who was present when two of the attacks took place, relatives of the victims, her old school friends and criminal experts.
Susanna delves into the killer’s history to see what signs there were that this intelligent and privileged young girl would go on to become a bloodthirsty psychopath.
Often the mundanity of the details are the most chilling aspects of this type of case – like that after murdering two dog walkers, Dennehy kept one of the animals to be her new pet, and then she and accomplice Gary Stretch drove to a supermarket.
Detectives shows Susanna the custody suite CCTV footage of Dennehy at Hereford police station and criminal psychologists analyse her behaviour.
It all makes for chilling and fascinating viewing. Susanna examines Dennehy’s dreadful case
