RUAR-ING SUCCESS

Jackson wants to bag winner’s medal before career is over

-

RUARIDH JACKSON reckons he could be banging on the doors of last chance saloon in his quest to top off his career with a winner’s medal.

The utility back admitted he has always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when silverware has been up for grabs.

Now he’s desperate to make up for lost time by helping Glasgow claim Pro14 glory in the Grand Final at Celtic Park next month.

Jacko, preparing for the last match of the regular league season against arch rivals Edinburgh, said: “I’ve had a great time in the pro game with two spells at Warriors along with stints at Harlequins and Wasps.

“But I haven’t yet managed to claim anything to put on the sideboard.

“I know my career will be drawing to a close in a year or two so the next few weeks will mean a great deal to me.”

The Warriors need to avoid defeat on home turf a week on Saturday to stay at Scotstoun for their play-off semi final.

And Jackson is champing at the bit to be involved.

He said: “I lost one final with Glasgow and then they won it the year after I went to Harlequins! My analogy is that I helped to loosen the lid but I wasn’t around to finish the job.

“That’s why I am so keen to go the whole way this time round – it is what gives me huge motivation to put in the hard work.

“Okay, I may not retire within the next couple of years, but in reality it IS near. That fact also drives me on.”

Meanwhile, Edinburgh boss Richard Cockerill reckons rookie Jamie Hodgson can be a lineout star on the big stage.

The coach delivered his verdict after the Scotland age-group lock was handed his first full-time contract with the Gunners.

Cockerill said: “Jamie’s worked tirelessly in the gym and in training, he thoroughly deserves this professional deal. He’s a determined young second-row and we’re looking forward to watching him continue.”
