Let me play in cup final for Celtic

- BY EUAN McLEAN

TIMO WEAH will beg USA team bosses to let him stay with Celtic to seal the treble Treble.

The on-loan PSG striker is facing a club v country dilemma between playing in the Scottish Cup Final or

starring in the Under-20s World Cup in Poland.

The US kids are due to play their first game of the tournament on May 24 – just 24 hours before Celtic step out at Hampden for their cup final showdown with Hearts.

Weah would love to play a part in both occasions and hopes the club can strike a deal that could allow him to see out the season with Celtic and then join up with the international squad for the rest of the tournament.

Weah, who has eight senior caps for his country but is still eligible to play for the 20s, said: “Hopefully I’ll be here for the Final because I have the World Cup coming up and we have to discuss that with the clubs and the national team.

“I didn’t know about it (the dates clash) until I saw it in the media. I don’t know what’s going on. I guess the club has to discuss it with the national team.

“I would love to play in the Cup Final but it’s a World Cup as well. It’s up to the club and national team to discuss which is better.

“It’s going to be my first Scottish Cup Final so it would be good to be a part of that.”

The scenario is a carbon copy of last year when the Hoops faced a similar scenario with loan star Patrick Roberts.

The Manchester City man chose to stay with Celtic instead of joining the England Under-20s squad in South Korea – and reaped the rewards by celebrating another treble success with cup final victory over Motherwell.

Weah has scored four goals in 15 appearances, mostly from the bench.

And he featured as a late substitute in Sunday’s semifinal win over Aberdeen that booked another big Hampden date for the champions.

Whether he stays to play his part could depend on Neil Lennon’s assessment of Weah’s importance within the squad or whether he would benefit more from being part of a World Cup campaign.

Despite becoming the first millennial to feature for the senior USA squad last year and amassing eight caps, Weah was downgraded to their Under -23 squad last month for a training camp.

But he is also eligible to turn out for their Under20s, where he would almost certainly play a key role in Poland.
