Africa plan for Harry and family

-

BY RUSSELL MYERS PRINCE Harry and Meghan could move to Africa for up to three years, it has emerged.

Plans have been drawn up to give the Duke and Duchess of Sussex a “bespoke” major international role that could see them moving abroad after the birth of their child.

The couple have emerged as two of the most popular members of the Royal Family and their mass appeal has prompted courtiers to “think outside the box”.

Proposals to make Harry governor-general or deputy governor-general of Australia or Canada have been dismissed as impractical, according to the Sunday Times.

Another idea, which is understood to be heavily favoured by Government officials, concerns them becoming trade envoys for post-Brexit Britain.

However, this was also rejected as too restricting, it is understood.

The African scheme is “just one of a number of options on the table”, a royal source said.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said yesterday : “Any future plans for The duke and duchess are speculative at his stage.

“No decisions have been taken about future roles.

“The duke will continue to fulfil his role as Commonwealth youth ambassador.”

The plan has been drawn up by Sir David Manning, a former British ambassador to the US and special adviser on constitutional and international affairs to the two princes.

Meghan – who is due to give birth in the next few days – and Harry are fully aware of the roles and are said to be keen to explore them later in the year.
