GINI TONIC AFTER PLAYER CHAT

-

JURGEN KLOPP praised player power for masterminding a “massive” win in the title race.

The Liverpool boss revealed the players sorted out a set-piece routine among themselves at Cardiff after drawing a blank in the first half.

Georginio Wijnaldum then fired home the crucial opener from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s inch-perfect corner to break the deadlock

And sub James Milner sealed the win from the spot as the Reds returned to the top of the table.

Klopp said: “It’s massive, it was so difficult. We used a set-piece in a fantastic way, the boys were so smart, they used the experience from the first half from a corner for a corner in the second half.

“It’s not from the training ground – it’s from the dressing room at half-time when the boys decided to do that. I love that. They decided to play that ball, Gini made the run with all the blocks – it’s man-marking – so he was free in that moment. But then you still have to hit that ball like this. A brilliant goal, I loved it.

“I like them taking the initiative, it doesn’t happen often which makes it even better.”

Klopp – unhappy because he claimed the pitch was dry and “dangerous” – praised his players for coming through.

Now they need one more win to overtake over the points tally of Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool that won the title in 1988 with 90 points from 40 games.

Klopp added: “The points total is like a bill, you don’t know what it’s going to be but when it comes, you pay it. In the end we will see how many points we have and then we get what we get.”
