Kev targets party after holding the champions
KEVIN NISBET netted a stunning double as he tried to gatecrash Arbroath’s League One title party.
But he insists Raith can still have a promotion bash of their own next month.
Nisbet put Rovers ahead twice but equalisers from Gavin Swankie and Ryan Wallace ensured the champions maintained their 13-point gap over the away side.
With Raith now facing an uphill battle to beat Forfar to second place, they could come up against the likes of Falkirk or Partick – if they get past the Loons in the play-off semi-final.
Nisbet said: “It is disappointing we didn’t win the league but we still have a lot of belief in our dressing room that we can end the season on a high.
“We aren’t scared of any team in League One or the Championship. We know we’re capable of beating anyone so it doesn’t matter who we face.
“It would have taken a catastrophic collapse for Arbroath not to win the league but we’ve still got a real chance of doing something ourselves.”
Nisbet curled in a 25-yard free-kick to put Raith ahead in 26 minutes. But their lead lasted just five minutes as Swankie thumped home a 15-yard volley.
Just after the break Nisbet pounced on a loose ball in the 18-yard box to fire beyond Darren Jamieson. But Wallace levelled from close range to leave Raith a point behind Forfar in third.
Arbroath boss Dick Campbell said: “I’m delighted with the commitment my players showed and we’re determined to finish the league on a high. I’m still smiling because we’re champions and it feels great.”
