SCOTTLOOKS FORTHREETO GET SECOND

- BY SCOTT BURNS

SCOTT McKENNA is praying Aberdeen make it the perfect Ibrox hat-trick and really give Rangers something to think about in the push for second.

The Dons travel to Govan on Sunday looking to build on their 1-0 league win back in December and their Scottish Cup replay triumph there last month.

Aberdeen also dumped Rangers out of the Betfred Cup semi-finals at Hampden and could make it four wins in Glasgow over Steven Gerrard’s men in one season.

It is some turnaround in fortunes for the Pittodrie outfit who before two seasons ago – when they dumped Pedro Caixinha’s side – had to go back almost 26 years for their last victory at Ibrox.

McKenna, who scored the Reds’ only goal in their December win, said: “We have a fantastic record at Ibrox this season as we have won twice there.

“It is always a difficult place to go but we have proven to ourselves we can win at Ibrox.

“We will be looking to do the exact same again.”

The Scottish international knows Aberdeen will be stepping into the lion’s den this weekend and can’t afford to lose their heads like they did in their Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic – where Lewis Ferguson, Dominic Ball, Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty were all sent off.

McKenna knows they just need to keep their focus like they have done on every other visit to Ibrox this term.

He said: “We don’t get caught up with the crowd or the atmosphere.”

Aberdeen have been second-place regulars in the top tier in the past four seasons but now it is Gerrard’s team who are in the driving seat.

Rangers are eight points ahead although that could be cut to five with an away win.

McKenna said: “We have been in Europe for a number of years now and it is up to us as players to make sure the club continues getting there.

“We still have four of the best teams in the league to play but over the course of the season we have done pretty well against them in those games.”
