Beast leaves victim with broken ribs
A FEMALE prison officer has been badly hurt in a savage beating by a male sex offender.
The prisoner went berserk and attacked the officer at Glenochil prison near Alloa on Thursday evening.
She suffered a concussion and broken ribs and is believed to be recovering at home.
A male colleague who went to help her was hit in the face with a TV by the attacker, who will face a police inquiry.
A source said: “The female and one of her colleagues were in the wing when they were attacked by the prisoner, a sex offender.
“He really battered her, hitting her on the head and kicking her in the ribs. She’s suffered a concussion and a suspected broken rib and is in quite a bit of pain.
“Her colleague was smacked in the face with a TV the prisoner had ripped out and used as a weapon.
“The prisoner was restrained by other guards and police will be notified.”
A spokeswoman for the SPS said: “On rare occasions, assaults on staff unfortunately do occur. All assaults on staff are reported to the appropriate authorities.”
Glenochil has an average prisoner population of 660. It holds adult male offenders including a mix of shortterm, long-term and life sentence prisoners.
It houses some of Scotland’s worst sex offenders including Sean Moynihan, who raped two young victims and attempted to rape a girl of 15. Moynihan has attacked serial killer Peter Tobin and double rapist William Bermingham with makeshift knives in jail.
