GOALS HERO KANE CAN BE LIONS KING

BY ED CASEY ISN’T Harry Kane supposed to be out of form? In completing his hat-trick against Bulgaria on Saturday, Kane surpassed Geoff Hurst and Stan Mortensen in the all-time charts.

And with 25 goals in 40 England appearances he now has Wayne Rooney in his crosshairs.

Rooney smashed 53 in 120 – breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s 49-goal standard that had stood for 45 years.

But after 40 games even Rooney had scored 11 fewer than Kane now has.

The Spurs hitman said: “It’s only when you guys let me know that I find out about the records.

“I don’t want to distract myself from what’s the most important thing which is the team and performing on the pitch week in and week out for club or for country.

“With our team the explosive players we’ve got and the chances we are going to create, I’m always going to get opportunities.

“I’ve got to make sure I’m sharp and in the right place to put them away.

“It’s a great milestone to reach, something I’m very proud of. But I’m always looking forward for the next one, the next set of goals, to see if I can get to 30 – how quick I can get to 30 and go from there.

“We have another game on Tuesday where we will be able to create chances so hopefully I can get a couple more.”

Wembley saw Kane’s 13th hat-trick for club and country, 11 for Spurs and two for England. Following suggestions he dived to try to win a penalty in the north London derby against Arsenal last week, team-mate Danny Rose underline why England fans should cherish him.

Rose said: “People should focus on his goal record and what he offers to any team.

“I don’t want to put pressure on Harry but when he is in the team you are guaranteed goals and a leader who will give everything. It is a privilege to be with him.

“He is really dedicated. He does not drink, he does not go out. He does extra every day and works on his left foot and right foot and when things are not going right at our club, he is the first one to say what we need to do in the changing room. He is the first player in and one of the last out.

“Harry is mentally strong. He will never pay attention to anything negative said about him. In the same way he’ll never get carried away with the plaudits so he is the ultimate professional.

“His record for club and country is no coincidence. It is typical of him just to respond in the way he did by scoring a hat-trick.”
