DEE FOR EFFORT

DUNDEE ....... 1 ELGIN ......... 2

-

JAMES McPAKE blasted his Dundee flops – and insisted he won’t tolerate any more such dreadful displays.

McPake watched his 10-man troops endure further misery on the back of their 6-2 derby defeat at Tannadice as Elgin dumped them out of the Challenge Cup.

Cammy Kerr had fired the Dark Blues into an 18th-minute lead before it all went badly wrong.

Second-half goals from Rabin Omar and Shane Sutherland turned this third round tie on its head –as well as the sending-off of home keeper Calum EUAN McARTHUR AT DENS PARK Ferrie. And McPake, who heard Dundee fans vent their frustration at the final whistle, said: “It doesn’t matter who you’re playing against.

“That second-half performance is nowhere near acceptable for a club this size. That was really poor.

“I said to the players at half-time, when it’s 1-0 you are vulnerable in any game. Fair play to Elgin though, they deserved to win.

“There was no complacency. It was a team that if they were right and did things properly they should have won the game.

“I understand the fans’ reaction. Over the next couple of days, we’ll sit down and find out what’s going on.”

Dundee didn’t have long to wait for the opener. Kerr cut in from the right and unleashed a 25-yard left-foot drive that flew over Thomas McHale and into the roof of the net.

The visitors levelled in the 56th minute when Omar latched on to possession and fired into the top right-hand corner.

Two minutes later on-loan Hibs full-back Sean Mackie was short with his passback and Ferrie raced off his line to try to clear but succeeded only in bringing down Kane Hester.

The loose ball fell to Sutherland and Elgin’s top scorer did the rest with a cool finish from 30 yards.

And Ferrie was given his marching orders to leave the hosts in disarray.

Elgin boss Gavin Price said: “I’m proud of the players. The sending-off was a big moment but we deserved to win.”
