Albert: Scots squad is one of the worst

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

BELGIUM legend Philippe Albert has branded Steve Clarke’s Scotland side as one of the worst in the country’s history.

The former Newcastle defender doesn’t fancy the Tartan Army’s chances of celebrating against his top-ranked team after the Hampden clash tonight.

Albert reckons skipper Andy Robertson and Scott McTominay are the only stand-outs in the squad but warned the Belgians not to completely underestimate the Scots.

The 41-times capped defender said: “This is one of the weakest Scottish teams in years. They have

some good players like Robertson and McTominay but besides that it is a fairly weak team.

“But beware, it’s one of the last chances for that team, they will give everything. We have to be alert from the start and take advantage of the space they leave.”

Red Devils boss Roberto Martinez copped flak from the Belgian media for only beating San Marino 4-0 after tinkering with his side but he’s preparing to send out the big guns against Scotland.

Albert said: “He tried against San Marino with Adnan Januzaj and Divock Origi. The game went less smoothly than usual.

“I don’t see why he would test against Scotland again. If you’re No.1 in the world you have to perform in every game. Martinez should start with the team that played the second half against San Marino.”

Martinez is set to unleash Romalu Lukaku at Hampden after leaving the Inter ace on the bench in San Marino.

The striker suffered racist abuse on his Serie A debut at Cagliari but has already scored twice.

Martinez said: “This is the first time I’ve seen him so relaxed and happy.”
